Questions and answers

How do I get to Cabrera?

By a group boat trip from Colònia de Sant Jordi (or Porto Petro), or in your own boat. The park lies about 10 nautical miles from the port. Book ahead with an authorised operator; MITECO says boat trips do not require a separate passenger permit, while the CAIB website says group transport requires a park permit, so confirm this with the organiser.

Do I need a permit to sail my own boat to Cabrera?

Yes. A private boat needs a park navigation permit (valid for up to a year, with no overnight anchoring). An overnight stay needs a separate permit: 1 night in July and August, 2 nights in September, up to 7 nights in the other months. Mooring in Cabrera harbour also requires the permission of the Gobierno Militar, and diving requires qualifications.

Can you stay overnight on Cabrera?

The refuge on Cabrera has 12 places in four rooms, but the CAIB website says it is closed until further notice for management reasons. It is a 15-minute walk over uneven ground from the port to the refuge, and nobody transports luggage.

When is the best time to go to Cabrera?

Editorial assessment: from May to September, in calm seas, on a morning boat trip. Official sources give no daily limit on people or boats.
