Sa Calobra

A road that loops back on itself like the knot of a tie descends from the mountains to a tiny cove, from which you walk into the Torrent de Pareis gorge. The drive is narrow and winding, and in season and at weekends traffic jams form, so plan to arrive in the morning or off-peak.

Getting there

  • By car from Palma: about 103 min, 60.5 km (our own measurement on the OSM road network, without traffic; method)
  • The MA-2141 road from the turn-off at Coll de sa Batalla; by our own OSM measurement from Palma about 60.5 km and about 103 min without traffic.
  • Parking: A car park by the harbour at Sa Calobra (after the drive down); the number of spaces and fees are not given in the sources we read.
  • Restrictions: According to the press in April 2026 there are no official traffic restrictions for cars, but the road is narrow, with no verge, and the times for coaches going down and coming up are set by the municipality of Escorca. No direct TIB line was confirmed; the timetable and price of the boat trip from Port de Sóller are unconfirmed.

Questions and answers

Is there a car ban on the road to Sa Calobra like at Formentor?

According to Ultima Hora from April 2026 there are no restrictions in force for cars, but a discussion about limits on the section from Coll dels Reis is under way. The times for coaches going down and coming up are set by the municipality of Escorca. Details in the record sa-calobra-droga-ma-2141.

How do I get to Sa Calobra without a car?

No direct TIB line was found. The most common option is TIB bus 203 or 204 to Port de Sóller and a boat trip to Sa Calobra; check the timetable and price of the boat trip with the operator. Roig also offers a coach excursion with a return by boat to Port de Sóller.

How long does the Torrent de Pareis gorge walk take and when is it safe?

The route from Escorca takes about 6 hours. Roig recommends walking it only from May to October and only 10-15 days after rain, because a stream flows through the gorge. The gorge can be dangerous for small children, and the stretch from Lluc is recommended with a guide.

How long should I allow for the cove itself?

From Palma the drive takes about 1 hour 45 minutes without traffic one way (OSM measurement). The cove itself, with two small beaches, bars and a tunnel in the rock, usually takes a few hours; the sources give no recommended visit time.

When is Sa Calobra least crowded?

Editorial assessment: early in the morning or in the afternoon, out of season and on weekdays. Fascinating Spain notes that the cove can be crowded, and at weekends traffic jams form on the road.
